About the programme

Helping our clients to manage their radioactive and hazardous wastes properly will reduce the potential for adverse effects on the world around, remove significant hazards for plant and animal life, and prevent potential for harm to human health.

Over the course of two years, your work here will have a real impact on making our world safer now and for future generations to come. You’ll see how applying strategic thinking to multi-disciplinary projects at the outset, can result in innovative solutions to waste prevention and treatment, rather than waste disposal being considered a problem to be managed at the end.

As part of this programme, we encourage mobility across our sectors to give you a broader experience and wider exposure to our business

Waste and Environmental Management at Babcock

You will be a key team member on every placement. You could find yourself working with teams to spot opportunities for organising and streamlining resources through a logical approach to process management.

You might be involved with the assessment of options for waste treatment and disposal from nuclear decommissioning projects, which may involve discussions with a range of stakeholders to optimise solutions or develop mitigations for implementation.

You could also be involved in environmental enhancement projects to improve the areas around client sites.

The possibilities are many and varied. Whatever you work on, you can be sure you’ll be making a real difference.

Isabella is helping to ensure energy security

“ I joined Babcock because I wanted to be part of creating sustainable energy solutions and protecting the environment. In my waste and environmental management role, I make sure nuclear byproducts are safely disposed of, which is crucial for keeping public trust and following regulations. By managing nuclear waste efficiently, I help keep nuclear power a stable and reliable energy source, enhancing our overall energy security.”

Cavendish Nuclear is a core part of Babcock International Group’s Nuclear Sector. We provide a comprehensive range of critical nuclear solutions across the markets of Clean Energy, Defence and Civil Decommissioning, both in the UK and internationally. From decommissioning redundant nuclear facilities, through supporting the Continuous at Sea Deterrent, to supporting the operation and build of nuclear power plants, our role in Cavendish Nuclear is to clean up the nuclear legacy and create a world where nuclear plays a key contribution in protecting our nation, ensuring security of energy supply and meeting our net zero commitments.

We’re looking for graduates with a wide range of qualities, including high technical skills, good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn and adapt to new circumstances.

You’ll be based at our Warrington, Bristol or Newbury offices for the course of your programme, with secondments and placements all across the country. In that time, you’ll design processes and technologies supporting a range of activities from New Build to Decommissioning and life extension for our clients’ sites around the world.
