Role: Systems Engineering Graduate
Sector: Marine

Why I chose it and why I chose Babcock:
I chose Babcock because it is a company on the cutting edge of engineering and technology. Some of the systems that we design and work with are at the forefront of innovation. It’s really exciting to get involved in the projects that Babcock do. You can work on something as small as a lifeboat, to as big as an aircraft carrier, and everything in between!

I chose the graduate scheme at Babcock because it offers lots of opportunities for development and progression. When you join, you are given a mentor who looks after your learnings to become a qualified engineer, and a buddy, who helps you to learn about the company for the first few days and weeks. The network that you build around you is really supportive and helpful.

My typical day:
Every day is different, which is what makes it really exciting! There are a wide variety of tasks depending on what projects you are involved in. I have completed tasks in: CAD design, requirements analysis, stakeholder mapping, quality control and testing to name a few.

My favourite part of the job:
My favourite part of the job is seeing a job that you have been working on being used in real life. Everything we do at Babcock makes a real-world difference, and it is really fulfilling to see that happen in front of you.

Most challenging thing I’ve ever done to date:
The most challenging thing for me was the transition from university to an actual job. The difference between learning about something at university and then putting it into practice takes a bit of getting used to. However, you have a great team and lots of support around you, and these people will always be willing to help you and guide you to learn these new skills.
