About the programme

Over the course of this two year programme, you will learn that sustainability management is a wide and varied topic that covers People, Community, Supply Chain, Waste and Energy (to touch on a few examples).

Babcock has structured its working groups, into three categories, Environmental, Social and Governance. This graduate programme focuses on the Environmental side, looking at Biodiversity, Energy, Waste and Water. Your work here will have a real impact on shaping and delivering the sustainability strategy for Babcock.

Sustainability at Babcock

Sustainability is an integral part of our business. We think and act for the long-term, and we are a trusted partner to our customers.

The opportunities on this programme are many and varied. You might contribute to exploring cutting-edge technologies for modern and innovative facilities, evaluate engineering solutions to enhance circularity for both light aircraft and armoured vehicles, engage in mapping the scope 3 emissions within our supply chain, or support the design and delivery of innovative social value solutions that make a positive difference in the communities we’re proud to be a part of.

Our work with customers such as the British Army, Royal Air Force, Network Rail, and Air Ambulance charities opens up a wide range of future opportunities. Whether assisting the Army in electrifying vehicles or adapting product offerings to meet the demands of a modern rail transport system, your work is guaranteed to make a real impact on everyday life in the UK.

What you'll need

  • A BEng (Hons) degree is essential. And because the programme is accredited by the IEMA or Energy Institute, our preference is that your degree is also accredited by the relevant institution too.
  • Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.

In addition:

Where you'll be based

Places on our Sustainability programme for Autumn 2024 are available in our Land sector.

Our Land sector supports the British Army by contributing to front-line support, delivering the capability they need, available to them wherever, whenever and however they need it. We ensure the British Army can focus on their missions safely by supporting their vehicles with skilled engineers and capability backed by long-term through-life engineering expertise.
We enable our defence and emergency services customers to do their job with our technical training programmes. We combine deep understanding and long-term commitment with constructive challenge. An embedded partner, focused on outcomes. Globally, new defence and resilience equipment programmes and asset modernisation programmes are seeing a resurgence. Training personnel is a critical component to support these programmes.
The Land sector delivers critical and vital aviation services to the civil and defence sectors where our skilled engineers, ground support staff and training instructors deliver military flying training, air station support and integrated engineering services.
Our graduates have the opportunity to work across multiple industries in the sector, gaining valuable insight into how we help different customers overcome their particular challenges.
Whilst we have locations throughout the UK, graduates tend to be based in our Greater London, Midlands or Scottish locations, though you will need to be ready and willing to move to other sites throughout your programme.
