My apprenticeship, why I chose it, and why I chose Babcock:
I am currently completing an Administration Apprenticeship with Babcock, and by the end of next year I will have achieved a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner qualification. I chose this apprenticeship because I wanted the chance to experience different placements, gaining insight into how various areas of the business operate while continuing to strengthen my skills in administration.
I saw it as an excellent opportunity to build my confidence, with each new challenge offering fresh opportunities to learn and grow. For me, this apprenticeship has been the ideal pathway to develop practical skills, achieve personal growth, and prepare for a future career with Babcock.
I chose Babcock because I saw it as a place where I could both learn and progress, while also gaining a recognised qualification. From the very beginning, I was impressed by the level of support offered to apprentices – whether with college work, projects, day-to-day responsibilities, or even challenges outside of work. What inspired me most was seeing how former apprentices had gone on to build successful careers within the company, which reassured me that Babcock was the right choice for my development.
My favourite part of the programme:
My favourite part of my apprenticeship is the speed at which you can develop and grow. Each placement has enabled me to gain new skills, build confidence, and deepen my understanding of the organisation. I’ve particularly enjoyed the networking aspect – working across different teams and departments has allowed me to form strong relationships and learn from experienced colleagues. I’ve also had the chance to support a variety of events, which has taken me to new places and further boosted my confidence.
My most rewarding project/experience:
During my apprenticeship, the highlight for me was helping to run a festive fundraiser for Age UK. We organised a raffle, a bake sale, and some games, and it was great seeing everyone get involved for such a worthwhile charity. I felt proud to be part of the team making it happen, especially knowing we raised £1,365.67 for Age UK – a significant amount that was very much appreciated by the charity. It gave me a real confidence boost and showed me how we can give back to the community as an organisation.
My work-life balance:
One of the aspects I value most about my apprenticeship is the excellent work–life balance it provides. My set start and finish times make it easy to plan the rest of my life around work. I finish at 3:30pm each day, which gives me plenty of time to do whatever I need or want before the next day. On Fridays, I have an earlier finish at 12:30pm, which allows me to make the most of my weekend. Thanks to this structure, I feel able to complete a full week’s work while still having enough time for myself, without feeling overwhelmed or stressed. Overall, this apprenticeship has enabled me to balance my work commitments with everything I want to do in my personal life.
My development:
Over the course of my apprenticeship, I’ve grown significantly within the business. At the beginning, I was focused on learning the basics, but as time went on, I became more confident and started taking on greater responsibilities and tasks. I’ve benefited from a wide range of training opportunities, each of which has helped me to build new skills and progress further. Overall, Babcock has supported my development in a short space of time, enabling me to feel more confident in my abilities and preparing me well for future job roles.
